Objectives
ENSEIRB-MATMECA offers an "ingénieur-docteur" course for engineering students who wish to become involved in scientific research and its applications, in order to encourage R&D vocations and facilitate the understanding of doctoral studies (pursuit of a doctoral thesis). The aim of the "ingénieur-docteur" course is to promote and enhance the value of research among engineering students, and to demonstrate the importance of research and the need to develop high-level scientific expertise.
The "Initiation to research" module is part of the "engineer-doctor" course. It aims to develop bibliographical skills through the reading of a scientific article (conference, journal, book chapter, etc.) under the supervision of a researcher, the production of a bibliographical synthesis and an oral presentation of this.

Mandatory prerequisites
Research articles are written in English. A good understanding of written English is required.
Syllabus
- beginning of semester: choice of an article from a list proposed by researchers in the laboratory concerned
- throughout the semester:
- reading and understanding of the article, supervised by the researcher who proposed the selected article.
- seminar participation: partial presentations of articles and discussions with other students taking the course, and the teacher in charge.
- end of semester: written summary (4-5 pages) and oral presentation
