Presentation
The "Composite Materials and Mechanics" engineer designs composite or metal structures, selects the most suitable materials and simulates their mechanical behavior. They can take charge of a project, from drawing up specifications to certification.
The Composite Materials and Mechanics engineering program is open to apprenticeships and continuing education. It is offered in partnership with CFA Sup Nouvelle-Aquitaine and in collaboration withENSEIRB-MATMECA.
Objectives
Train engineers in composite materials and mechanical engineering, with skills in the development, industrialization and certification of materials and/or structures.
"An original dual skill set: in materials science, particularly composite materials, and in structural design."
Know-how and skills
- Design, select, characterize and implement a structural material, from laboratory scale to industrial sector prototype.
- Dimension structures at different scales (from material to system) and determine their mechanical behavior.
- Select and implement manufacturing processes for materials or structures in response to the specifications of an industrial sector.
Target skills
Designing a structure, selecting materials
- presentations by manufacturers
- On-site practical work in an industrial environment
- focus on materials selection and eco-design
- high-level scientific teaching on the mechanical behaviour of homogeneous and composite materials
Dimensioning a composite or metal structure
- certifications on industrial calculation codes
- in-depth scientific grounding in finite element analysis and mechanics
Managing a project from specification to certification
- innovation project: from product idea through design, simulation and marketing to prototyping
- courses in business science, INPulse incubator
Develop specific skills in the context of company assignments
Examples: carbon-carbon composites, fatigue problems on structural components for the aeronautics industry, building up a materials database in conjunction with the company's quality processes, etc.
Apply interpersonal and managerial skills
International dimension
A professional stay abroad is an exciting and essential part of an engineer's training. It must be carried out over a minimum of 12 weeks, which can be split up.
Training benefits
- A training program supported by a network of local teacher-researchers and 23 industrial contributors
- Carrying out an innovation project over the first 2 years of school, from design and structural design to prototyping.
- The 12-week mobility requirement in a foreign company or laboratory
- The opportunity to spend 16 weeks in 3A at a university abroad
- A choice of specialization in the third year, enabling apprentices to play an active role in their training.
- High employability of junior engineers in companies that match their target sectors
- The opportunity to spend a week in Bilbao on additive manufacturing and non-destructive testing.
