Description

This module introduces the main models and numerical methods used to simulate incompressible flows with (at least) two phases, such as air and water, for example.we will focus mainly on the 1-fluid model. Sessions will alternate between lectures and applications in industrial (Fluent) and research (Notus) computational codes.

The course outline is as follows:

Introduction: a reminder of the interest in studying two-phase flows and their complexity
Modeling: the 2-fluid model and the 1-fluid model

Focus on the 1-fluid model


Numerical methods for the interface:

Volume Of Fluid (VOF) methods
Level Set (LS) methods
Surface tension calculation
