Description

The aim of this course is to introduce the notion of telecommunications networks: concepts, architectures, models. Basic concepts are presented, with reference to the OSI model and the TCP/IP model, as well as the notions of circuits, virtual circuits, circuit switching, packet switching, connected and unconnected modes, Ethernet, etc. A panorama of the essential elements of networks is presented, followed by details of the lower layers. An overview of the essential elements of networks is presented, followed by a gradual introduction to the details of the lower layers.
1. General concepts: introduction, history, network types, architecture, models, standardization, physical layer basics
2. Data link layer: prerequisites, switching, principles, flow control, protocols, error control
