Description
The aim is to apply the principles and methods studied in class to real systems. Student engineers complete 5 practical assignments on the following topics.
- Control of a pneumatic system using a TSX 47 PLC (moving a metal part on a bench using pneumatic cylinders and a conveyor belt)
- Elevator control by TSX 47 PLC (TSX 47 PLC and elevator model)
- Implementation of an assembly line (FESTO FEC 640/660 PLC: programming the distribution or assembly module)
- Closed-loop PID control of an electromechanical system (speed-controlled DC motor)
- Closed-loop PID control of a time-delay system (temperature-controlled thermal enclosure)
Objectives
A first objective is to put into practice the concepts and tools seen in the Systems Control course taught earlier in the semester.
A second objective is to introduce students to GRAFCET modeling and the Ladder contact language. The PLCs will be programmed using AUTOMGEN and FST 4.21.
Skills developed through this module :
- Use mathematical and physical tools in an embedded systems engineering context - level 2
Teaching hours
- CIIntegrated Courses20h
Mandatory prerequisites
Mathematical prerequisites

- Handling complex numbers (modulus, argument)
- Laplace transform and its properties
Semester 6 automatic prerequisites :
- Frequency representation of linear systems (Bode, Nichols and Nyquist diagrams)
- Handling transfer functions (sums, products, calculation of gain or argument)
- Handling block diagrams
Prerequisites for the Systems Control course :
- Understand the advantages and disadvantages of each elementary control action P, I, D
- Synthesize simple feedback controllers: P, PI, PD(F), PID(F)
