Description

The aim is to apply the principles and methods studied in class to real systems. Student engineers complete 5 practical assignments on the following topics.

  1. Control of a pneumatic system using a TSX 47 PLC (moving a metal part on a bench using pneumatic cylinders and a conveyor belt)
  2. Elevator control by TSX 47 PLC (TSX 47 PLC and elevator model)
  3. Implementation of an assembly line (FESTO FEC 640/660 PLC: programming the distribution or assembly module)
  4. Closed-loop PID control of an electromechanical system (speed-controlled DC motor)
  5. Closed-loop PID control of a time-delay system (temperature-controlled thermal enclosure)

Objectives

A first objective is to put into practice the concepts and tools seen in the Systems Control course taught earlier in the semester.

A second objective is to introduce students to GRAFCET modeling and the Ladder contact language. The PLCs will be programmed using AUTOMGEN and FST 4.21.

Skills developed through this module :

  • Use mathematical and physical tools in an embedded systems engineering context - level 2
