Description
Design, manufacture and assembly of a printed circuit board.
EN:
Printed Circuit Board (PCB) design, fabrication and assembly.
Objectives
As part of this project, students will design a small electronic system (e.g. for analog signal acquisition), from the choice and sizing of function blocks to the production of a physical prototype (printed circuit board), including SPICE simulation and intermediary placement/routing stages.
This project will typically be an opportunity to cover, illustrate and sometimes simply remind you of:
- the use of common electronic measurement devices (oscilloscope, stabilized power supply, GBF, etc.);
- the interest and limits of SPICE simulations;
- the limitations of operational amplifiers (waste voltages, input common-mode dynamics, etc.); - the basic techniques involved in using a single-pole power supply ("single-supply").);
- the basic techniques involved in using a single-supply power supply;
- the main best practices for placement-routing (decoupling capacitors, signal domains, use of a ground plane, etc.);
- production of the various manufacturing files;
- implementation of a systematic approach to prototype verification and validation.
The assessment will be carried out (in pairs) on the basis of a report covering the relevant design, manufacturing and validation/verification elements.
Skills developed through this module :
- Use the functions of analog electronics in an embedded systems engineering context - level 2
- Designing and implementing hardware electronics for embedded systems - level 2
EN:
In this project, students will design a small electronic system (e.g. to acquire an analog signal), starting from the choice of the functional blocks (and how to dimension them) up to the realization of a physical prototype (a printed circuit board assembly), as well as going through intermediate steps like SPICE simulation and PCB place-and-route.
This project will typically be an opportunity to introduce and illustrate:
- how to use common electronic measuring devices (oscilloscope, stabilized power supply, GBF, etc.);
- the interest and the limits of SPICE simulations;
- the limitations of operational amplifiers (range of output voltage swing, input common mode range, etc.).);
- elementary techniques related to single-supply operation;
- the main good practices to place-and-route PCBs (decoupling capacitors, signal domains, use of a return plane, etc.);
- how to export the required manufacturing files;
- how to approach verification and validation (V&V) of a prototype in a systematic manner.
The evaluation will be based on a report (one for two students) presenting the relevant elements of design, manufacture and V&V.
