This course aims to develop oral and written communication skills in both academic and professional contexts. Students deepen their ability to express themselves clearly, precisely and thoughtfully on complex topics combining technology and society. They work in teams to research, present and lead interactive mini-lessons on contemporary themes for their peers. The course also provides the opportunity for future international mobility.

Objectives include:

  • Public speaking on topical subjects related to science and engineering;

  • Educational activities (quizzes, debates, games, guided discussions);

  • Improved writing skills (reports, summaries, arguments);

  • using English in an intercultural and collaborative context

Objectives

In semester 6, students are encouraged to adopt an active, collaborative approach to learning. The course emphasizes communication in context and the exploration of current themes through group work.

The objectives are:

  • Conduct a group research project on a theme related to the interactions between engineering, science and society (environment, emerging technologies, ethics, etc.).

  • Write a short technical report on a scientific subject, respecting structure, organization and appropriate academic discourse;
  • Design and run an interactive mini-lesson for the classroom, including engaging activities (debates, games, quizzes, guided discussions).

  • Develop public speaking skills: express yourself clearly, structure your speech, adapt your language to the audience.

  • Use relevant technical vocabulary in popular or professional discussion contexts.

  • Strengthen teamwork and communication skills in English, in contexts similar to those encountered in international mobility.

Further information

At the end of the semester, students must choose between TOEIC and IELTS, depending on their level and plans for international mobility. The number of places for IELTS is limited for logistical reasons.

Students are also encouraged to consider an international experience during the summer. A maximum of 4 weeks can be validated as international mobility, even if the activity is not directly related to engineering. Alternatives such as WWOOFing (volunteering on farms or ecological projects) are offered to develop language and intercultural skills right from the end of the first year.
