Description
Matter transfer: Acquire the basic concepts of matter transfer applied to unitary separation operations, and in particular solvent extraction: co-current and counter-current matter transfer applied to solid-liquid, liquid-liquid and gas-liquid extraction, and counter-current matter transfer with reflux: distillation, continuous rectification of zeotropic and azeotropic binaries.
At the end of the course (lectures + practical work), students will be able to choose a unit operation adapted to a given material transfer. They will be able to draw a schematic diagram of a separation plant and calculate various parameters relating to this plant and to operating conditions, in particular the titres and flow rates of the different material flows. The student will be able to compare different installations and identify the most efficient one.
