Syllabus

Objectives

    - Enable students to acquire scientific skills that complement their original field of study and consolidate their general culture.

    - Provide Biology/Biotechnology concepts for students with a chemistry profile, and Molecular and Macromolecular Chemistry concepts for students with a biology profile.

    - Raise students' awareness of ethical issues and scientific communication.

    - Share the scientific cultures of engineering students from ENSMAC (CGP and AGB streams) and ENSTBB.

    - Build and organize bibliographical research, theoretical reflections, surveys and joint projects.

Contents

This module is designed jointly with ENSTBB. It is open to a limited number of students from ENSMAC (maximum 12 from the CGP stream, maximum 12 from the AGB stream) and ENSTBB (maximum 5).

The module takes place over 4 to 5 weeks:
- Lectures by external speakers spread over the duration of the module.
- These will focus on ethics, social responsibility and scientific communication.
Examples of lectures:
- Relations between science, technology, society and ethics
-Vulgarization of scientific knowledge
- From the production of scientific knowledge to technology transfer
- Ethics and innovation in the pharmaceutical field
- Managerial design to promote well-being and efficiency at work

- A project to be carried out in teams over the five weeks. Students are asked to define and develop a topical scientific issue at the interface of chemistry and biology, with societal implications. Teams will be mixed ENSMAC/ENSTBB. The results of this work will be presented in the form of a TV news program in which each member of the group will play a role.

The module will take place at ENSMAC, except for 2 lectures which will be held at ENSTBB.
