Objectives
The aim of the course is to give students a better understanding of the structure of molecules, from the point of view of electronic distribution and spatial structure. This approach will enable students to anticipate the reactivity and functional properties of any organic structure.
Teaching hours
- CIIntegrated courses6,66h
Mandatory prerequisites
- Notions of electrostatics and probability (final year)
- Knowledge of organic chemistry at 1st cycle university or preparatory class level.
Syllabus
1/Chemical bonding
I-1) Atoms: Introduction - Relationship between atomic wave functions and quantum numbers - Orbital energy levels
I-2) Molecules: Valence Shell Electron Pair Repulsion (VSEPR) theory - Covalent bonding - Molecular orbitals - Homonuclear diatomic molecules - Polyatomic molecules. Orbital hybridization
2/Electronic properties of organic molecules
