Electromagnetic compatibility is an important topic when designing an electronic system. This module aims at providing knowledge for better understanding what the challenges are, how electromagnetic emissions of an electronic system are characterized, and how to mitigate those emissions.
Objectives
After a presentation of the main theoretical concepts of the subject, practical work or small projects will be used to gain a better understanding of these concepts. The work in question may include characterization of some of the emissions from a system designed and manufactured in other teaching modules.
By the end of the module, students will have acquired knowledge of:
- the main electromagnetic compatibility standards;
- measuring and characterizing electromagnetic emissions;
- diagnosing the electromagnetic emissions of an electronic system;
- assessing the conformity of an electronic system to a given electromagnetic compatibility standard and, where appropriate, identifying ways of achieving compliance.
EN:
After introducing the main theoretical concepts of the topic, labworks and small projects will be used to better grasp those concepts, which may for example include characterizing some of the emissions of a system designed and fabricated in other course modules.
At the end of the module, the students will have acquired knowledge:
* in the main electromagnetic compatibility standards;
* in measuring and characterizing electromagnetic emissions;
* in diagnosing electromagnetic emissions of a printed circuit board system;
* in assessing the compliance of an electronic system with a given electromagnetic compatibility standard, and on what might be the strategies to mitigate the emissions if necessary.
