Objectives

The main aim is to examine the electrical and electromagnetic phenomena that occur in biological tissues, and to understand how to measure them.

The heart as a source of electrical phenomena in the body will illustrate general concepts.

Another section of the module may be devoted to an introduction to impedance spectroscopy.

Keywords:
- Bioelectric potential;
- Bioelectric sources and conductors;
- Voltages and currents produced by living cells;
- Electrode interface;
- Electrical measurement of cardiac electrical activity;
- Associated signal processing for pathophysiology.

Plan:

This course on electrical and electromagnetic phenomena in biological tissues covers:
[Chapter #1] Organs: Sources and Fields of Electrical Potentials;
[Chapter #2] The Body: Volume Conductor;
[Chapter #3] Electrodes: Measuring Biopotentials;
[Chapter #4] Signal Processing for Analysis of Heart Electrical Activity.
