The course covers the state of the art and recent developments related to electronic engineering in biomedical engineering, industry and research. Drawing on published reports, roadmaps and position papers, it presents current engineering trends and challenges in the field.

Objectives
The aim of the course is to provide students with a sound knowledge of the current state of technology and research related to electronic systems and devices for biomedical and healthcare applications, including the main technological challenges and issues (form factor, energy efficiency, implantability, communication, adaptability, regulation, clinical studies). An overview of the market, its main drivers and key industry players will be presented and discussed. Current research trends and emerging technologies will also be illustrated. Each student will have the opportunity to explore in a case study the market and challenges of a technology/device, selected from among the most important currently in industry and research.
