Power management (intelligent energy management)

Devices such as cell phones require power management. Different components require different supply voltages and have different specifications in terms of PAE, noise, PSRR (power supply rejection ratio)... Bias current must be kept to an absolute minimum to ensure maximum battery life. Power management ICs include most analog components, mainly voltage regulators, battery chargers and digital state machines for the control system. They are manufactured in mixed analog/digital CMOS technology, offering the best compromise between performance and chip size.
