Description
Present the transmission techniques used in wireless networks (WLAN) and cellular phone systems (from 2G to 5G).
Teaching hours
- CIIntegrated Courses12h
- TDMMachine Tutorial13h
- TIIndividual work10h
Mandatory prerequisites
Digital communications and the prerequisites included within (probabilities, random processes, signal processing, digital signal processing).
Syllabus
The first part of this course deals with the characterization of physical transmission channels, including free-space attenuation laws, multipath and fading phenomena. The second part is devoted to transmission techniques: equalization, spread spectrum techniques, OFDM, diversity techniques.
The third part deals with synchronization techniques (time, frequency) and timing recovery. This is illustrated using a single-carrier QPSK communication chain. Program
Part 1: Transmission channel characterization - Long-term and short-term fading - Long-term fading: mean and standard deviation - Short-term fading: statistics and mechanisms
- Signal time spreading
- Channel time variation Part 2: Transmission techniques - Equalization - Spectrum spreading - OFDM - Diversity Part 3: Synchronization techniques
- Time synchronization
- Frequency synchronization
- Rhythm recovery
