Description

Description:
This module focuses on the advanced protocols of the TCP/IP model, taking a closer look at addressing, routing and network services such as DNS and HTTP. The knowledge acquired will enable students to understand communication through complex protocols and to carry out configuration and problem-solving in a network environment.

Pedagogical objectives :

  • Understand local network and Internet protocols
  • Master the concepts of IP addressing, sub-addressing and routing in a TCP/IP network.
  • Acquire practical skills for configuring and troubleshooting networks using these protocols.

Program and learning outcomes:

  • The OSI model and TCP/IP
    • Understanding the OSI and TCP/IP models
    • Understanding protocols in the different layers
  • LAN and WAN networks
    • Identify the key components of a LAN: switches, routers, access points.
    • Describe the protocols and standards used in local and wide area networks.
    • Understanding binary transmission through NRZ, NRZI, and Manchester coding
  • Ethernet and 802.3 and CSMA/CD
    • Understand the role of the Ethernet protocol in LAN communication.
    • Explain how Ethernet and the 802.3 standard work.
    • Set up a basic network using Ethernet equipment (cabling, switches, etc.).
  • IP addressing and sub-addressing (IPv4)
    • Master IPv4 addressing: notation, address classes, subaddressing.
  • Routing and network traffic management
    • Configure a network with routers and subnets using static routing protocols.
    • Analyze the routing process using diagnostic tools such as traceroute, ping and wireshark.
  • Overview of ARP, DNS, HTTP and other protocols
    • Understanding the ARP protocol and Man in the Midle attacks
    • Understanding how DNS works: name resolution
    • Analyze the HTTP protocol: request and response structure
  • Practical work
    • Configure a TCP/IP network, create subnets and manage IP addressing.
    • Perform connectivity tests
    • Analyze a network
