Description

Introduce the basic concepts of power electronics.

Before tackling power electronics, we review passive component technology and thermal concepts applied to electronics. After presenting a few examples of applications, the main families of power electronics converters are introduced. This is followed by a functional study of power switches and a proposed method for synthesizing converters. The main characteristics of power semiconductor components are briefly described. The course continues with a study of three classic non-insulated DC-DC converter structures. A design office using PSIM software introduces power electronics simulation with an example of a non-isolated converter. The course is rounded out by tutorials.
