Description
Structural design requires in-depth knowledge of materials and their properties. To meet this need, this course covers the phenomenological aspects of material behavior, based on the physics of phenomena. The following points are covered:
Presentation of the main classes of materials
Mechanical characterization tests
Scales of study and observation of materials
Relationship between mechanical properties and microstructure in metals
Equilibrium diagrams (theory and applications)
Heat treatments : quenching, tempering, annealing of steels and light alloys
Methodology for choosing materials (Ashby's method for selecting the best-performing material in relation to a specification)
Teaching hours
