Description
The aim of this course is to introduce the notion of telecommunications networks: concepts, architectures, models. Basic concepts are presented, with reference to the OSI and TCP/IP models. An overview of the essential elements of networks is presented, followed by a gradual introduction to the details of the lower layers.
1. General concepts: introduction, history, network types, architecture, models, standardization, physical layer basics
2. Data link layer: prerequisites, switching, principles, flow control, protocols, error control
3. Local networks: principles, MAC sublayer, Ethernet, Ethernet and switching
Appendices (old protocols)
A large number of theoretical exercises
Two practical subjects in the experimental room
