Description
To provide a solid foundation in probability and statistics that is useful for RSI engineers.
The concepts introduced here will be applied in other courses, particularly those on digital communications and signal processing.

Mandatory prerequisites
Knowledge acquired through IUT and industrial BTS programs.
Syllabus
I Probability Theory.
1) Counting. 2) Definitions: event, probability, etc. 3) Discrete and continuous random variables: properties, distribution function, density, characteristic and generating functions. 4) Pairs of random variables: covariance, correlation. 5) Chebyshev’s theorem and limit theorems.
2) Case study: Bernoulli, binomial, Poisson, and normal distributions...
3) Introduction to random functions.
II Statistics
1) Elements of descriptive statistics (using Excel)
2) Elements of theoretical statistics: estimators, estimation, confidence intervals, tests for conformity of a theoretical distribution to an observed distribution, chi-square test.
