Description
This course provides an introduction to digital communications, through lectures, practical applications and a project.
Digital communications are taught alongside networks and electronics, with a focus on wireless networks (WiFi, WIMAX), broadcast systems (DTT, satellite) and cellular phone systems (GSM, GPRS, UMTS, LTE). At the end of this course, students will be able to identify the basic functions performed in all modems used in telecommunications systems. This Digital Communications course covers the following points: digital modulations (PAM, PSK, QAM, FSK), receiver architecture for AWGN and band-limited channels. The viewpoint of this course is deliberately theoretical. Understanding the theoretical aspect of digital communications is the added value of an engineer over a senior technician.
