Description
The aim of this course is to introduce the essential concepts of networks, based on the TCP-IP model of the Internet.
This module is largely based on the study of the Internet protocol family, knowledge of which is essential today. Throughout the course, the specific points of this network architecture are analyzed and compared with the general principles.
This module includes a list of exercises and a practical test illustrating the main mechanisms described in the course.
1- Introduction to general network concepts: network types, architecture, models, standardization
2- Data link layer: switching, transfer time, error control, Ethernet
3- Network layer: IPv4 addressing, IPv4 and Ethernet interaction (ARP), routing and fragmentation, ICMP and IPv6
4- Transport layer: introduction, UDP protocol, TCP protocol
In addition: 1 lab session in the machine room: Assembly and configuration of a TCP/IP LAN over Ethernet, study of ARP and ICMP protocols, study of IP routing, study of IP subaddressing.
