Description
Level of knowledge :
N1: beginner
N2: intermediate
N3: confirmed
N4: expert
The knowledge (skills) expected at the end of the course
Know the concepts of bridges, switches and routers and learn the main routing algorithms to be able to interconnect networks of level 2 and level 3 of the OSI model. Understand the concept of quality of service in networks and the main models and algorithms used. (C1,N3) (C2,N3)
Understand the main concepts and properties of information security, and the issues at stake in the digital enterprise and society. Learn the properties of the main cryptological tools used to ensure information security, and understand their use in the context of network security. Understand the main protocols used to secure electronic communications, such as IPSec and TLS. Understand the notion of VPN. (C1,N2) (C2,N2) (C9,N2) (C11,N2)
Learning outcomes in terms of abilities, skills and attitudes expected at the end of the course
be able to interconnect Ethernet networks using bridges supporting loop avoidance using the Spanning Tree Protocol (IEEE 802.1D) and to share links using VLANs (IEEE 802.1Q standard). be able to interconnect IP networks using static and dynamic routing (RIP, OSPF and BGP protocols), designing appropriate addressing schemes. Combine the two previous concepts to perform inter-VLAN routing. be able to build such networks using professional equipment. be able to define a network architecture that respects quality of service. (C3,N3) (C4,N3) (C5,N3) (C7,N2)
be able to choose the right cryptological tools to ensure the desired security objectives for electronic communications. be able to detect basic attacks, e.g. based on phishing, and manipulate the notion of public-key certificate, including in cases of chaining and cross-certification. be able to build, using professional equipment, a VPN system using IPSec for secure connection of nomad users to a central site. (C3,N2) (C4,N2) (C5,N2) (C7,N2)
