Description

The Geology for Engineers option is designed for students interested in geology and its applications (georesources, underground storage, groundwater and geothermal energy, natural hazards, development, etc.). In this course, you will integrate and apply all the geology lessons acquired in 1A and 2A to carry out several concrete projects. Two sedimentary basin-scale projects: in which you will analyze and interpret a variety of geological data to reconstruct the architecture and tectonic-sedimentary evolution of a basin. These data will either be acquired in the field from outcrop studies (Morocco), or subsurface data (seismic and drilling) that you will integrate and interpret on Kingdom software. A reservoir-scale project: in which you will assess the quality of a reservoir system by integrated analysis of drill cores, thin sections and logs.
The skills you acquire while working on these 3 projects will enable you to move on to the next step: building a geological model. In this module, you will learn how best to represent the various geological heterogeneities present in the subsoil (basin and reservoir scale), how to use geostatistical tools to best propagate their properties in 3D, and how to manage uncertainties.
You will also take an introductory geotechnical module (shared with the 3GE course), which will provide you with the essential foundations for predicting and solving problems posed by the soil and subsoil in the context of land use planning and environmental protection.
