Description

We will be looking at the construction of hybrid cognitive systems, i.e. combining human(s) and machine(s) in decision-making systems, and the ethical issues involved.
The concepts of intelligence, natural and artificial cognition, metacognition, sensory-motor and cognitive coupling, and the sharing with the machine(s) of knowledge, representations, decisions, tasks and responsibilities through dynamic strategies of sharing, delegation and collaboration will be central.
Keywords:

Forms of intelligence
The dynamics of interactions
Hybrid cognitive systems.

Syllabus

WEEK 1 - Intelligence, different forms, different scales

Theoretical framework: intelligence on the scale of the cell, on the scale of the individual (plant and animal intelligence), human intelligence, intelligence on the scale of society, artificial intelligence and hybrid intelligence.
fields of application:

Robotics, cobotics
Virtual or augmented reality
Multi-agent systems and video games
IHM, IHS and human factors
...

WEEK 2 - Behavior modeling, interaction dynamics

theoretical framework: theories, issues and limits of behavior modeling, simulation and interpretation, human/machine interactions, hybrid cognition and related ethical issues.
fields of application

Artificial intelligence, machine learning
Social organizations
Command and control systems
Supervision systems
Factory of the future

A series of lectures will be offered so that students from both courses can follow them.
The courses will take the form of 2 immersive weeks. An intermediate project follow-up period will take place in December.
Cross-disciplinary project (outside the 2 immersive weeks)
The cross-disciplinary project will involve specifying and developing a hybrid cognitive system in which the user becomes the machine's "cognitive co-processor" (exploiting natural cognitive abilities to guide an AI: the "augmented machine" concept). These aspects will have been covered in class before the project launch at the end of week 1.
Speakers:

Pierre-Alexandre Favier
Martin Hachet
Ikram Chraibi Kaadoud
Jean Castet (Immersion)
Catherine Semal
Bernard Claverie
Other speakers to be specified
