Description
These field trips are designed to illustrate courses in ecology, sedimentology and paleontology. Excursions to the Arcachon Basin enable us to analyze the complexity and fragility of a coastal ecosystem, and to visualize the dynamics of a current sedimentary system. They provide an initial approach to coastal development issues and their impact on both ecosystems and coastlines. They are also designed to provide a better understanding of the ancient bio-sedimentary environments studied in basin geology. The visit to the Miocene stratotypes of the Saucats geological reserve has the dual aim of approaching the reconstitution of paleoenvironments (paleontology, stratigraphy, sedimentary) but also of raising students' awareness of the concept of geological heritage in its various aspects.
Minimum skills to be acquired: Ability to read and observe past and present sedimentary systems in situ.
