Description

This field placement is an illustration and extended practical application of the "Basin Geology" teaching component of the "Georesources" optional module. The course focuses on the stratigraphic, sedimentological and structural analysis of a portion of the South Pyrenean foreland basin. It aims to reconstruct the geometry of sedimentary bodies, in particular potential reservoirs, and to reconstruct the geological history of the Pyrenees through the stratigraphic record of deformation.
This work is based on highly accurate digital mapping, enabling geometric modeling of the layers. Hydrogeological data can be integrated to characterize the functioning of aquifers.
Minimum skills

Produce detailed maps of sedimentary bodies, distinguishing between lithological and chronological units.
Use the principles of sequence stratigraphy to establish stratigraphic correlations, reconstitute the 3D geometry of sedimentary bodies and qualitatively and quantitatively characterize the factors controlling the dynamics of sedimentary basins.
Qualitatively and quantitatively assess the relationships between tectonics and sedimentation.
