Description

The aim of this course is to apply a number of hydrological and hydrogeological field methods, and to compile and put into perspective the results obtained in order to assess the vulnerability of a drinking water production site in the Bordeaux area. All results must be integrated into a report in the form of a "technical note".
Skills to be acquired:

Organize a hydrogeological field mission: procedures, protocols, preparation of materials, transfer of information between different work groups
Measure flow in watercourses
Draw up and interpret a piezometric map of a drinking water production site
Carry out and interpret a geochemical measurement campaign
Integrate data to give an opinion on the vulnerability of a drinking water production site.

Teaching hours

Syllabus

Stream flow measurement by exploring the velocity field using various tools (micro-spinner, ultrasonic and Doppler probes).
Differential GPS levelling and optical levelling of observation structures
Production and interpretation of a piezometric map from data collected in the field (levelling, piezometric measurements)
Measurement campaign (pH, conductivity) and geochemical sampling in the field and laboratory analyses (alkalinity, major ions, stable isotopes of hydrogen and oxygen).
Description of experimental protocols and compilation of data in a technical note. Interpretation of these data should enable us to give an opinion on the vulnerability of production facilities to river water intrusion.
