Description
In this module, students learn the fundamental concepts required to deal with a water engineering problem in terms of quality, based on regulatory constraints and the initial quality of the water (drinking water and/or wastewater). Part of the course is also devoted to the management of drinking water and wastewater treatment facilities.

- Chemical composition of natural waters, origins of pollution - Water sampling, measurement and analysis - Regulatory aspects, drinking water and wastewater quality standards - Drinking water and wastewater treatment: - Unit processes in water treatment - Treatment plant layout - Sludge production at treatment plants - Sludge treatment processes - Operating balance of treatment plants - Energy aspects of water treatment, electricity consumption, etc. - Safety of personnel and facilities - Chemical product management - Defining water treatment, electricity consumption, etc. Energy aspects of water treatment, electricity consumption, etc. - Safety of personnel and installations - Chemical management - Defining an investment plan - Defining and controlling operating costs - The fundamentals of an operating budget.
