Syllabus

The course is organized in the form of a theoretical lecture recalling the theoretical and physical bases of reservoir properties, and in the form of laboratory tutorials where students put theoretical concepts into practice. The following aspects are covered:

Introduction (definition of petrophysics, scales of study)
Porosity (definition, petrographic and petrophysical types)
Porosity measurements (image analysis, by weighing, by RX scanner, by helium porosimetry, by gas expansion, by mercury injection, by logging, pressure effect - compressibility)
Permeability (Definition, averaged permeability, permeability in parallel formation associations, permeability in series formation associations, permeability anisotropy) -absolute permeability (measurement methods)
Specific surface area (definition, measurement methods)
Relationship between porosity/permeability/specific surface area - permeability models
Saturation - Capillarity in porous media - interfacial tension - contact angle
Capillary pressure Hysteresis - Wettability
Structure of porous media (definition, measurement methods)
Average permeability (definition, measurement methods)
Electrical behavior (definition, measurement methods) - NMR
Gas analysis : sampling, analysis methods, continuous sensors
Fluid analysis: sampling, analysis methods, continuous sensors
