Description

The information provided by drilling and borehole measurements is fundamental to the analysis of the subsurface, at all scales of investigation.
This course begins with a general introduction to drilling and logging techniques, as well as the principle and benefits of instantaneous logging. The main part of the course then focuses on the presentation of the main deferred logging tools: diamond cutter/caliper, spontaneous polarization, gamma-ray, sonic, density, neutron, resistivity, pendagemetry and wall imaging.
Theoretical notions concerning the operation of each tool are explained, as well as their mode of operation, their advantages and limitations, and their main applications.Numerous application exercises will introduce students to log analysis in the context of reservoir studies (aquifer or hydrocarbon).
Minimum skills to be acquired:

Know the main drilling methods and be able to determine the most appropriate method for the objective to be achieved (depth, type of lithology, budget, etc.).
Know the operating principle of each logging tool and its applications. Know how to interpret and integrate the main logging techniques in a "quick look", in order to determine the lithology, petrophysical properties and fluids contained

in underground rocks.
