Description
Objectives
Designing a steel structure, and predicting its durability, requires in-depth knowledge of the materials used and their properties. In order to meet this requirement, the program in this course covers the phenomenological aspects of material behavior, based on physical phenomena. The relationships between microstructure, mechanical behavior and durability will be detailed.
Skills acquired
Be able to choose an alloy and a heat treatment with regard to its functionalities (physical constraints and the technical and economic constraints of the processes implemented)
Be able to estimate orders of magnitude, handle units correctly, integrate a good vision of space and its representations, know how to isolate a system.
Be able to analyze and interpret experimental data, develop an argument and write a summary report.
