Description

Objectives
The aim of this module is to teach students the fundamental principles of non-destructive testing techniques used in the aerospace industry. At the end of this course, students will be able to choose and implement a NDT methodology adapted to the inspection situation, depending on the type of part/test piece, the material and the various constraints imposed on the inspection.
Skills acquired

Be able to understand the scientific and methodological principles of the various NDT techniques used in aeronautics
Be able to apply their knowledge of the various techniques in supervised practical work
Acquire the knowledge to be able to choose and implement the most appropriate inspection method for different cases

Syllabus

Contents
The course (6h) includes:

A description of the objectives of Non-Destructive Testing, its regulatory context and fields of application
A presentation of the principles, advantages and disadvantages of the main NDT techniques used in aerospace: visual inspection, dye penetrant inspection, eddy current, magnetic particle inspection, ultrasonics, infrared thermography and radiography
An introduction to applications: composite materials

Direct application tutorials (8h) will enable students to acquire the know-how required for practical implementation of the following methods: eddy current, magnetic particle inspection, infrared thermography and ultrasonics.
Practical work (18h) will enable students to apply their knowledge in concrete terms (penetrant testing, magnetic particle inspection, ultrasound, eddy current and infrared thermography).
Finally, a concrete case study (6h face-to-face) will be carried out by each group in the form of a mini-project, including a supervised phase to launch the mini-project, independent work and time in the practical work room to implement the chosen methodology. Finally, a feedback phase will enable the project work to be assessed.
Teaching method

Teaching associated with online resources on Moodle
Case studies at the end of the module to apply acquired notions
Strong connection between TDs and TPs
