Description
The course covers the essential aspects of source coding theory used to design algorithms for compression in telecommunications. After a brief review of the main principles of information theory, we study signal processing aimed at limiting the bit rate required to transmit signals such as images or video. These processes are illustrated using the main compression standards dedicated to multimedia signals (JPEG and MPEG).
